Step 2. Consider The Traffic Potential

1. Are there enough searches in you niche in general to justify your efforts?

2. Is it a Trending item?

3. Is it Seasonal?

4. Does it have steady search volume?

5. How much competition do you have?

Next, a tip for understanding how to analyze traffic potential for your topics.

Traffic Potential Tip:

Focusing on a “long tail search” with 3 or more words in combination to form a phrase, is key to a successful affiliate venture for organic search traffic.

An example of a long tail search term would be:

“how to groom a Golden Retriever?”
or
“how does a body wrap work?”

While the search volumes may be smaller, the difference is you are looking at a searcher that is looking for your content and is much closer to making the buying decision, given the right value proposition.

Create a spreadsheet to store your keywords using Google Sheets/Docs or Excel.

As you use the various tools listed below, weed out the keywords that are obviously not in your market. You will become aware of some search terms with high volume that have alternative meanings. Obviously if you were creating a page about gardening roses, it would do you no good to use a phrase like “Guns and Roses.” Your topic is about the flower, not the rock group Guns and Roses (no matter how much traffic it may be attracting.

Focus on the “related” keyword Topics to your project and record them:

You’ll be wise to segment the keywords into themes or categories. Prioritize the keywords based on how much competition and how much traffic you can expect.
Context is everything when looking at keywords and topics.

TIP:
Focus in on the keywords that have lower competition but higher searchers per month.

Step 1. Consider the Interest:

It is essential that you have an actual interest in the topic or use for a product or service that you would like to promote. It makes it so much easier to continually add good content to your site ( on your own or directing writers you hire), as well as develop a relationship with your potential customer. Thus creating a quality resource that readers are searching for, the search engines and social networks will love and in turn you will reap the rewards of performance marketing.

Not only your interest is important but the customer interest is key in defining your potential returns on your investment of time. This is part of the research you will be doing. To determine which niche (or micro niche) is best for you to target initially and get the most out of.

The ultimate goal is to make you the expert in your topic/niche.

At first this can seem an overwhelming task, but don’t let it scare you. This is a self-discovery process that we take you through step by step. You will be amazed at the original ideas you can come up with, while brainstorming.

Things that I want you to stop and write down:

  1. Make a list of your interests.
  2. What are your hobbies?
  3. What subject would you like to learn more about?
  4. What skills do you already have?
  5. What Work experiences can you share that would benefit readers?
  6. What personal experiences have you had, that would help others with your insights?

Once you write them down it becomes quite clear that you have a lot more to offer from your own perspective for your topic/niche
